On January 28th the roof will come off the Coliseum. The Swedish national soccer team and the Mexico national soccer team are in town and will play an exciting game of soccer. This will be the one and only chance to watch these teams preparing for the World Cup in South Africa 2010. Both teams are strong contesters for the World Cup and scores of fans will be there to support their respective team. The event is predicted to be sold out.

History
Sweden and Mexico have previously met each over eight times. Sweden has three wins and Mexico has two wins. The last game between Sweden and Mexico in the U.S. was 0-0 draw on January 26, 2004 in San Diego.

The Stadium
Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is located in Oakland, CA, and is used for baseball, football and soccer games. It is currently home to the Oakland Athletics of the MLB, Oakland Raiders of the NFL and San Jose Earthquakes of MLS (the Earthquakes use it for larger attendance games). The capacity for soccer games is 47,000.

The Coaches
The head coach for the Swedish national team is Lars Lagerbäck. He has been head coach since 2000 and during his time as head coach Sweden has for the first time qualified for five consecutive Euro and/or World Cup finals. For Euro 2000 and World Cup 2002, Sweden qualified without losses and only giving away four goals in total. Also qualified for Euro 2004, World Cup 2006 and Euro 2008.

The head coach for the Mexican national team is the legendary Mr. Sven-Göran Eriksson. The Swede has coached teams in Sweden, Portugal, Italy and England. As a coach he has won the Swedish league, Swedish Cup and Uefa Cup with IFK Gothenburg. After his successful time as coach in Sweden he moved to S.L. Benfica in Portugal, where he won the Portuguese Championship, the Portuguese Cup and finishing runners-up in the UEFA Cup. After his adventures in Portugal he moved to Italy. His first Italian team was AS Roma, where he won the Coppa Italia. He won another Coppa Italia with UC Sampdoria. His most successful time as a coach in Italy was with SS Lazio. Lazio under Mr. Eriksson won the Coppa Italia, Italian Supercup, the European Cup Winners Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Lo Scudetto (the Serie A title, Italian League). After quitting Lazio he became the England head coach. He qualified for the World Cup 2002, Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006. In all these tournaments England went out in the quarter-finals. As of June 2 2008 he is the head coach of the Mexican national team.
